A Letter to a Stranger: Nathan Kotylak
To Nathan Kotylak, You don’t know me Nathan. We have never met and likely will never meet, but due to recent events, I know a good deal about you. I know that you come from what would be considered a good family; you attend a prestigious school, your father is a doctor and you live in a nice home. You are an athlete with future Olympic goals and unfortunately, after last Wednesday night, you are also a rioter. I saw the picture of you trying to set fire to a police car on a blog dedicated to Public Shaming and read more…

I still can’t believe what happened in Vancouver last night. I can’t stop thinking about it. The images of young men and women running through the streets of Vancouver, with billows of smoke wafting behind them as they attempt to kick canisters of tear gas back toward the police or jump on burning cars as they primordially beat upon their chests and, the hundreds of people who stood by snapping pictures or catching video with their smart phones, who gave the terrorists the audience they so desperately craved, will forever be imprinted on my mind. Road hockey, floor hockey, ice hockey, we even tried field hockey today up at the University (4yo totally vetoed that, he said it was too slow which it’s not but whatever). With this fierce hockey obsession it is no surprise that when the Vancouver Canucks play an early game it is on in our home. Like tonight, the Canucks are playing Anaheim and the game started at 5pm so, of course, we are watching. Just a few minutes ago, read more…
WTF Wednesday: And the Kids are Where?
There was a time after the birth of my first son when I indulged in a little bad, daytime TV. When I say bad, I mean the worst. Yes, I would sit for an hour each afternoon and watch The Young & The Restless. Nikki, Victor, Sharon, Phyllis, Nick, Victoria, Jill, Jack, etc, I knew them all; all the plot lines, all the marriages, the divorces, the comas (Genoa City is a dangerous place) and the revenge plots. Embarrassingly, I was eyeball deep in the bubbles baby One of my favourite parts of watching a soap was seeing new characters read more…
