oh wow.... you obviously don't have kids. Yes, those of us who do have children CHOSE to have them, but OUR children are the future and they're the ones who'll be wiping YOUR bum when you're old and frail and paying into the system that you'll also be using when you're older and retired. Life is a full circle.

And don't talk to me about sacrifices - parents make sacrifices on a daily basis - it's our job and to do any less would make us unfit parents. Sacrifice is something you probably don't know anything about since I'm 99.9% sure that you don't have children judging by your ignorant comments.

Mums have come a long way, baby. And it's BECAUSE somewhere along the line some vocal mums (now grandparents) said: "ok that's enough, we need a little help" and refused to be shutup and trampled by those who gave them zero respect (such as yourself).

And on a side note, I'm not sure when you were at the mall last, but there are TONS of Senior spots at all the Victoria malls now. Get your facts straight.

You my dear are the one who needs to grow up & show a little respect.

It isn't right to say that the elderly/frail/injured aren't getting parking spots because people with children are getting them. Those people can get the disability parking stickers. And those baby spots aren't meant for people with children, the few places that have those spots are meant for them to be for people with babies in tow. I stopped using those spots ages ago because I am more mobile now that my son is one, but when he was floppy and newborn and grumpy and I had to get in and out of places fast so I didn't get dirty looks from people if he started screaming, I used those spots and I'm so glad they were there.
I don't think anyone here is looking for a medal for having a baby, but I think new moms deserve a nod and a little slack. More to the point, I don't think they should have to get off the bus just because someone else wants on.
Everyone deserves a chance to be out and about and have their human rights upheld.

I guess you are unaware of the process of getting a disability parking pass. It is actually rather easy and is available to any person, not just the elderly, with neck pain or a cane. And thank goodness for that as they deserve it.

I don't expect the world to bow down to me. In fact what I expect is all people to be kind, considerate and to work together to ensure that each person gets a seat on the bus. You obviously didn't read the entire post because if you had, you would have understood the message was not "pity me because I have kids" it was, "we can all work together to ensure everyone gets what they need from transit". It was meant to say let's not attack each other, rather let's work together to get what we all need.

And regarding our grandparents not bitching and complaining. Why don't you talk to them about what raising kids was like then. I have had some pretty frank conversations about motherhood with my grandmother and she has told me she often felt isolated, sad, angry and alone. In other words, it wasn't a very enjoyable experience and I won't apologize for wanting my job to be enjoyable just like every other person.

We can all be better, we can all be more compassionate and understanding... I don't know about you, but to me having that perspective is growing up.

God, isn't it amazing how our grandparents/great grandparents managed to get through life without all the whining and feelings of entitlement just because they had kids? They had their kids and didn't expect the world to move out of their way and didn't ask for all kinds of other parking/seating/special treatment..They managed to cope just fine and most importantly - WITHOUT all the crying and whining about how everyone wasn't putting them first for doing The Most Important Job In The World. I don't see any "Elderly Parking" but see lots of "Customer With Child" spots. Nice that an elderly person with a cane or whatever, might have a long painful trek from the back of the lot so a young little mommy can dash in real quick with her SUV stroller. Shouldn't pregnant women/young kids/recent moms be benefiting from the exercise? It makes me sick to see a person who really NEEDS a closer spot due to circumstances beyond their control (like being OLD and frail), made to walk farther so Mom and Braaayyyden/Cayyyden/Jayyyyden don't have to walk 10 more yards.

FYI, the priority bus seats were MADE for the elderly and disabled. The stroller set just kind of took them over. Since when is having children a disability? It's disgusting that anyone would expect a 20 year old with a big stroller to be just as entitled to the priority seating as a handicapped or elderly/frail/wheelchair-bound person. You chose to have a kid(s), the people the seats were designed for DIDN'T have a choice about their situation or NEED for the seats. Also, after I have worked all day and am tired as hell, I am just as deserving of a regular seat as a "mommyyyy" with her kid. I paid the fare just like she did, and I'm taking a seat, thanks. Moms taking up 2/3/4 seats with strollers aren't paying the extra fares for the baby & stroller.
Get over it, stop being so entitled and expecting everyone to bow down and pay for the choice you made to be a parent; there are sacrifices you have to make as a parent and life isn't going to be as easy all the time. Grow up.

Victoria, in general, is not very child-friendly, in my humble opinion. I think we need more of many things here, such as more parent & infant parking spots, better grocery carts for when you have to shop with your children, more wipes to clean the carts, potties EVERYWHERE for toddlers, Kleenex around every corner and the list goes on.....

Parents struggle around town to get their business and errands completed, they FLY from daycare to work and back again and have a tough enough time trying to make ends meet, let alone get dinner on the table.....

So the LEAST we could do is let the parents of the future TAXPAYERS sit with their offspring at the front of the bus.

That's my rant. Thanks for listening!

I must say I should drive less but sometimes the idea of taking the bus with the kids is just way too daunting. This article is going to give mother's or parent sin general another reason to avoid the bus which I think is very sad.
