Oskarisms

My 4yo son has this amazing memory. Basically he remembers everything he hears and all that goes on around him and has since he was about two. This can often be rather cute, but it can also be a bit ...

A Letter to Angus

You are my second child. You were supposed to be my last. But life doesn't always go as planned. The potential injustice of life is something you learned at a very young 10 months old. That is when I became pregnant ...

Left Eye

It is always my left eye that betrays me. That traitorous eye can never make the cut and always reveals me for what I am but hate to be: An emotional and sentimental woman who can't help but well up ...

He Wasn't That Sick Huh?

You’re Just a Crazy Mommy

It was Sunday afternoon and my 11 -Month-Old was not doing so well. His breathing was shallow, he was lethargic and he was way too sleepy. So, I scooped him up and hauled him off to the Walk-In-Clinic at our ...

A Letter to a Stranger: Nathan Kotylak

To Nathan Kotylak, You don’t know me Nathan. We have never met and likely will never meet, but due to recent events, I know a good deal about you. I know that you come from what would be considered a good family; you attend a prestigious school, your father is a doctor and you live in a nice home. You are an athlete with future Olympic goals and unfortunately, after last Wednesday night, you are also a rioter. I saw the picture of you trying to set fire to a police car on a blog dedicated to Public Shaming and read more…

Tenfold

Riot

I still can’t believe what happened in Vancouver last night. I can’t stop thinking about it. The images of young men and women running through the streets of Vancouver, with billows of smoke wafting behind them as they attempt to kick canisters of tear gas back toward the police or jump on burning cars as they primordially beat upon their chests and, the hundreds of people who stood by snapping pictures or catching video with their smart phones, who gave the terrorists the audience they so desperately craved, will forever be imprinted on my mind. I feel sad. More than read more…

Mommy Smackdown

esrb-mature

Remember when I wrote this post about the violent video game commercial played during a early Canucks game (5pm) on Rogers Sportsnet. Well I was pretty upset about the whole thing and so I took the time and I made a complaint to the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council back in March. It has been a few months and with the move and everything that has been going on lately, I had almost forgotten about the complaint until I got a response today from Rogers Sportsnet. I can’t attach the letter for you as this warning came along with it: This read more…

Journal open

My mother was diagnosed with Breast Cancer just after the May long weekend in 2000. I’m not one to have premonitions about things, but that May long weekend, I distinctly remember having a strong feeling that something was very wrong. Within days of having that feeling, I came home from work to find my mother and brother crying in our living room. That was when the big ‘C’ word first made its appearance in my life. Within weeks of her initial diagnosis we learned that my Mom’s cancer was a rare form called Inflammatory Breast Cancer that is highly aggressive, read more…

No Pain, No Gain

back-pain

This morning began like any other morning with me trying to fit in a quick shower before the kids woke up. As usual, this did not work. I wasn’t even through shampooing my hair when the shower curtain was ripped back to reveal my 4yo standing there with a big grin on his face telling me that the baby was screaming. So, I hurried out of the shower and pulled on some clothes so I could go retrieve the baby and beg her forgiveness for daring to wash & cloth myself before providing her with her first breakfast (yes she read more…
